Okay, so I'm sitting at Nick's enjoying lunch which consisted of a chicken chimichanga, rice, beans, chips & salsa. I was enjoying my solitude, listening to my iPod, and reading this weeks Scene. I wasn't paying any attention to the other patrons until I was about to pay my bill. I took my headphones off and heard an extremely stupid woman in the booth behind me talking to her extremely stupid friend. Neither of them could have been over 40 years old.
They were discussing why they gave caffeine up for lent, all the while smoking cigarette after cigarette. Ladies, caffeine is the least of your worries at this point. The one woman said in all seriousness, "You know, they always say that cigarettes kill, but they never say how. So I was at the doctors the other day and I asked him." So I'm sitting there thinking, are you kidding, you really had to ask? She then goes on to say "Did you know that 400,000 people die each year from lung cancer? The carcinogens in cigarettes eat away at your lungs and heart, and other organs. Emphysema is caused from smoking and it basically chokes your lungs. How come no one ever tells you how they kill, they just always say that?"
This conversation should be put on television/radio as a public service announcement. I just cannot believe that one would actually have to question how exactly cigarettes kill you. I mean, hasn't the surgeon general been putting labels on cigarettes since the 70's? And what about all those Truth.com adds on television and radio. I am saddened that such stupid people exist in this world, let alone in my neighborhood.
So, this random ten goes out to all the stupid fucks living in this world, that includes you George Dubya.
1. Lean On Me - Bill Withers from The Best Of. A classic song with lyrics that offer great advice to all of us. A killer movie too!!!!
2. Into The Groove - Madonna from the Immaculate Collection. Nothing like a little 80's Madonna to get you moving.
3. Starkville City Jail (Live) - Johnny Cash from At Folsom Prison/San Quentin. A good ol' jail song for inmates, gotta love that!!
4. If You Can Feel It - ????? from a mixed funk cd in my collection. I have no idea who this is, but it is a kick ass song. A feel good jam w/ lots of brass, a little vocals, and a sweet backbeat.
5. Race For The Prize - The Flaming Lips from The Soft Bulleting. I don't think I've ever listened to this song, but I did enjoy it. This album came from Jim's amazing collection.
6. De Todo Un Poco - Michael Lloyd from Dirty Dancing Soundtrack. Oh, a classic movie from my childhood. I believe this song is the one playing when Jennifer Grey aka Baby fucks up the lift in front of everyone.
7. Gz Up Hoes Down - Snoop Dogg from Doggy Style. Pass the blunt for this song. Love me some Snoop!!!!
8. It's A Love Thing (Instrumental) - Mark Farina from Mushroom Jazz 5. Nice, this guy gets high rotation on my iPod. Another chill groove with piano, percussion, and some cool sound effects here and there. Love this guy.
9. How Come You Don't Call Me - Alicia Keys from Songs In A Minor. I do enjoy this song. Good lyrics for a great voice, a solid backbeat from her drummer (probably a machine), and her kick ass piano playing.
10. Musicology - Prince from Musicology. A funky little jam from a funky little man. Love him, and I'm so glad I got to see him live a few years back. He is a hell of a guitar player!!!!
So there you have stupid people, a random ten just for you.
