Natty Dread

This is a picture of the ten pound hairball that surgeons removed from an 18 year old woman's stomach. Seems she was complaining of severe stomach pain and unexplained weight loss. When checked out, a very large natty dread, or should we say nasty dread, was discovered. Seems she admitted to eating her hair for the last five years, and it finally caught up to her. She was discharged into a psychiatric facility shortly after recovering from surgery for an evaluation. You think?

Joyus Turkey Day

It's 2:40pm, and I am stuffed. I am in my pajamas and watching Mr. Rogers on PBS as I type this blog. He's at a vegetable soup factory showing us the process of how veggie soup is made, canned, labeled, then sent out to the grocers. Good times.

Let's recap this turkey week. Tuesday at the Beachland was the incredible Miss Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings. Salexis accompanied me & we had a blast getting down to some funky soul Dapaliciousness. By the third or fourth song I found myself on stage getting my funk on w/ Sharon. She's amazing. The next morning I woke up hoarse from all the yelling/cheering. I managed to make it through work though without losing my voice.

Last night I baked up some apple pie & threw down some collard greens to simmer all night for the big feast. I made my way up to the Parkview for their annual Turkey Eve blues jam night w/ Kristine Jackson. The place was packed and many a jammers were present, while Salexis & family met me up there just in time for me to get up and beat the skins. I got to jam w/ my friend Reese on harmonica & vocals. J. Scott Franklin was belting out some great trumpet solos w/ KJ, Rob Musik laid it down on lead guitar (as per usual) and did it up on an Elvis tune. Mz. Butterscotch was present to lay down some funky Motown cuts. Salexis' cousin was visiting from Canada and he lead vocals while I laid down the beat for Mustang Sally to close the night. That man has some pipes, and I think it's safe to say we brought the house down. I didn't catch the bass players name on that tune, but he was funky. By the end of the night my voice was totally gone from having to talk over the music for hours on end, but it was well worth it.

I think I'm ready to hit the couch for a little nappy nap. The dogs are one step ahead of me, so I'll have to convince them to give me some room. Hope u are all stuffing ur faces & have a great day!!

One Love,
Medusa Jones a.k.a. Dreadie Mamma

PS - Mr. Rogers is singing about knowing the truth and dealing w/ disappointment. "It's such a good feeling to know your alive and growing inside."

Back To Reality....

My mini-vacation has come to a close. It was good to have time off & do exactly what I wanted to do. Today I made my way up to Unique Thrift for some cheap threads. I got out of my Jeep and walked up toward the door when the guy selling hotdogs in front of both the Marathon station & Unique started whistling at me and shouting disgustingness toward my way. I tunred and shouted "Fuck you hotdog man." I was looking for a really cheesey Christmas sweater, but it seems that only REALLY large women wear these, for they had none anywhere close to my size. It was not a total bust because I did get a few items, namely a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles doo-rag in which I'm particularly excited to sport on my dome. I left and had to drive past hotdog man to get out of the parking lot, I had my window down and he yelled something so I looked over and he grabbed a kilbasa w/ his tongs and held it up to his crotch and made thrusting motions w/ his pelvis, I shot him the finger and laughed my ass off as I drove away. A man selling hotdogs in front of a gas station and thrift store waving his kilbasa at me, honestly people, come on. Now that is pure HI-larity!!!

V is for Vacation....

I have been straight up slacking since Wednesday night, when my much needed vacation from work began. A recap of my time off thus far. Thurs Salexis and I rolled out to the Metroparks w/ Cody for an off road hike, much to Salexis' dismay, she reached a new level of enlightenment. Welcome. From there I went home to relax and OD on coffee, followed by dinner w/ my boss & colleague and more coffee. Back to the house to release the hounds, then out to the Savannah in Westlake for an open jam night w/ Lego. It was so great to be behind the kit w/ Lego on guitar/vocals, and jamming out in an all-white suburb of Cleveland. No one informed us it was mock turtleneck night coupled w/ mullets galore. Had I only known.....

Friday I did not get out of my pajamas. Well, I did put on a pair of pants for about twenty minutes, then thought, 'who the hell am I kidding?' so I promptly changed back into my scrubs. I did rent a couple of movies for an entertaining evening. I watched the Walmart documentary which just enraged me even more, as well as Thank-you For Smoking (which I have yet to finish because my lazy ass fell asleep on the couch!!).

Before watching the movies the doorbell rang and it was the UPS man, toting a large envelope, in which I signed for. Turns out it was a letter from a guy I went to high school with, and have not spoken to for nearly 8 years. Our last encounter involved him telling a bunch of people I had tried to "seduce him and come on to him" in which I called him on, only for him to lie about it. So, it totally creeps me out that I am still, 8 years later, on this guy's mind. Not to mention I am nearly impossible to find, for a good reason. I hate that there is no anonymity in this world.

Saturday was another lazy day in which I laid on the couch in and out of sleep. Then dinner w/ friends out in the boondocks. Good food, good people, good times.

Today consisted of brunch w/ Guy, lots of coffee, a massage, home to chill, bookstore and Target w/ Salexis. Home to work on some work thing, a shower, a bowl of cereal, now prepping for open jam at Verlie's w/ Lego. Looking forward to pounding the skins.

I don't know why I work so much, nor why I never take time off without feeling guilty about it. So, here's to taking time off work and doing not a freggin' thing with the time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peace out,
Medusa Jones

Daylight Savings R-10

Good morning fellow bloggers. I started off early today, got some laundry under way, tried to run some errands, but w/ the time change, nothing was open yet. So, I found my way to Gypsy for some fair trade coffee and a muffin. While sitting here I started to pay attention to the music she has playing, and it's fucking country, needless to say, I had to throw on some of my tunes. I started reviewing my blog and noticed that lately it has been filled with only sick and twisted stories of Crapland. I also noticed it has been quite some time since anyone has busted out a random ten. So, in honor of darkness embracing us for the next six months, we're off:

1. I Can't Get Next To You - The Temptations from Motown: The Classics Disc 2. This version is a bit faster than the Al Green classic (which I prefer) but it's not a bad way to start today.

2. Brooklyn - Mos Def from Black On Both Sides. You all know I am a huge Mos Def fan. Enough said.

3. The Celebrated Walkin' Blues - Taj Mahal from The Essentials. Classic blues cut from one of the best. Makes me want to learn how to play the harmonica.

4. Willow Tree - G. Love & Special Sauce from Yeah That's Easy. This track brings back memories from my late teen/early twenties. Growing up in the Jers and spending time in Iladel. Wurd.

5. It's A Love Thing (Instrumental) - Pete Rock from Mushroom Jazz 5/Mark Farina. I can't say enough good things about Mark Farina. He has some killer down time funky jazz electronica music, as well as some heavy house beats that make you wanna move. Google him and get some of his stuff, you won't be disappointed. Especially the Mushroom Jazz discs.

6. Four Days - Counting Crows from This Desert Life. Not much to say about this track, other than it is pretty standard Counting Crows.

7. Do The Reggay - Toots & The Maytals from The Very Best Of. One of the best reggae bands ever, in my opinion. Got a chance to see them here in the land of Cleve back in March. I recommend every reggae lover see them live.

8. Certainly - Erykah Badu from Baduizm. When is she coming out w/ some new stuff? I love her style.

9. Boomin' Granny - Beastie Boys from The Sounds Of Science (1). One of my favorite BB cuts. I know Silk's got my back on this one!

10. Alive - Pearl Jam from Ten. Now this cut takes me back to my teenage angst years. I think we probably all owned (and still own) this cd. Sing along w/ me everyone......

That's it for now. I think I'm going to take Cody out to the Metroparks for a hike, seeing that it is only 10:11am. She'll like that, as will I.

Peace out,
MJ

Just when You Thought It Couldn't Get Worse...

It does. Pictured here is cousin Anthony who stabbed the 16 year old boy that was trying to help the victim of a family affair murder. So not only did he stab him, he then ran him over with the SUV they all rolled up in for the slaying. While he ran the kid over, Mom and Grandma attacked an adult neighbor that was trying to revive the dying 15 year old that was just fatally stabbed. WTF? The story gets worse as it unfolds. Fry them.
