It's mid-day Monday and I've been off all day. I must admit, I love having Mondays off. I hit up the market for some groceries, followed by lunch w/ some friends, followed by the oh so pleasant drawing of blood, then a trip to Marc's. I just finished a bowl of fruitty pebbles and a handful of walnuts. Now I'm going to sit back w/ a cup of hot apple chai and listen to a random ten. Enjoy.
1. Africa's Inside Me - Arrested Development from Zingalamaduni. A great song. This album didn't take off like their first, but I do enjoy it just as much. J-Ho already knows that I'm actually a 40 y/o black woman trapped inside a mid-twenty y/o caucasian woman's body, so this song is fitting.
2. Unhappy - Big Boi from Speakerboxxx. Good song, and as already stated by Silk, a kick-ass hip-hop album.
3. Didn't Cha Know - Erykah Badu from Mama's Gun. A great fucking tune right here. Lyrics that speak to me and I just can't say enough good things about this woman.
4. Add It Up - Violent Femmes from self-titled album. Another great song. I love when you see drunk people singing along to this one when it comes on the jukebox.
5. Chyna Black - Anthony Hamilton from Comin' From Where I'm From. This song doesn't do much for me, but I like this guy's voice, although he could be mistaken for a woman at times.
6. Devil's Pie - D'Angelo from VooDoo. Love this guy, this song, this disc. Talk about a panty ripping, up all night R&B album!!!! Can I get a Hells Yeah?
7. Blackwater - Doobie Brothers (I think) from a mixed cd I made long ago. I really like this song, it makes me feel good.
8. Calling All The People - 4 Non-Blondes from Bigger, Better, Faster, More. I do enjoy this song and this entire album for that matter. I don't think people really listened to anything other than What's Up on this disc, thanks to mainstream radio. If you don't have it, you should.
9. You Had Me - Joss Stone from Mind, Body, & Soul. You all know how I feel about this young woman. Good tune.
10. Keep On Bumpin' Before You Give Out Of Gas- The JB's from a Funky Good Anthology Disc 2. A funky ass track w/ lots of brass, some funky organs, dope drum beats, and some idle conversation in the background as vocals.
There you have it. I'll share a bit of wisdom and/or advice I received from one of my patients this weekend. "We can all get closer to God and Jesus Christ through the prayer sensors in the back of our heads."

Welcome Back Silk E Random Ten Edition
Happy Day, Silk is back in the OC!! Hopefully she didn't catch any African stomach virus' or malaria for that matter. This one's for you Silk....
1. Rave On - Buddy Holly from Greatest Hits. This is one from Jim's Amazing Collection. R.I.P. Love me some Buddy Holly, too bad he lost the coin toss and got killed in a plane crash. R.I.P. Buddy, one of the founders of rock n' roll!!
2. Money - Cypress Hill from Death Do Us Part. I've always like Cypress Hill, this album isn't as good as some of the past ones, hopefully they aren't losing it.
3. Umi Says - Mos Def from Black On Both Sides. I really dig this track as well as this album, and this man. Very talented and inventive.
4. Porcelain - Moby from Play. Leave it to a quirky bald man w/ funky little glasses to come up with some trippie beats. I love this guy.
5. Track 07 - Herbie Hancock from a mixed Herbie CD I made a while back. Don't know what the hell this song is called, but it's Herbie, therefore it's good.
6. Don't Tell Me - Madonna from Music. I heard an interview on NPR w/ the guy that originally did this song. It was loungy and it sucked. I'm glad Madonna grabbed it and turned it into a funky little groove (I bet he is too). She's awesome.
7. Just A Test - Beastie Boys from Hello Nasty. I have nothing more to say about these guys other than I LOVE THEM.
8. Illuminati - Fatboy Slim from Tomb Raider Soundtrack. Great song featuring Bootsy Collins (on vocals). I've never seen this movie, my sister is in love with Angelina Jolie and burned this disc for me because it's loaded with electronic music. Good stuff.
9. Crazy - Beyonce from a mixed cd stolen via Kazaa. I've gotta say I can relate to this song, I think we all can, but I'm just guessing. Emotions are a bitch.
10. Fingertips - Poe from Hello. This song is so chill, I love it. I've noticed that Poe is on high rotation on my pod of i.
There you have it. I just finished a bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats. I'm going to retire to my bed and await the tryptophan to kick in. Milk contains tryptophan for those who didn't know, a little POI for that azz. Goodnight!!

If you love the west five two.....
You'll love these blogs as well:

If I was a little smarter, I'd figure out how to add links to my blog. I tried once, but it was all very confusing and hi-tech. I need J-Ho to come show me the way. Check these blogs out when you get a chance.

P.O.I.
Category: Medicine
POI: Marijuana mixed with a strong wine was the first anesthetic of record, used by Chinese physician Hua T'a while operating in the second century A.D.
Hua T'a also means "Flowery Pagoda" or Chinese architectural timber frame that dates back to the Liao Dynasty in the 12th century.

Two POI's in one, aren't I clever?

Give Me Your Eyes Random Ten Edition
I was harassed at work regarding my lack of bloggage this weekend. It was very uneventful over here at the west five two, I do apologize. This one goes out to Ajae!!! Enjoy my friend, LOVE the new hair!!!
1. Electric Mile - G. Love & Special Sauce from Electric Mile. A great band, a great album, and a great song. These guys are performing at Bonaroo, anyone interested in making the trip for a weekend music festival? Live music, camping, hippies, etc. etc., let me know!!
2. Space Funk - Goldie from INCredible Sound of drum 'n' Bass Disc 1. If you like drum & bass, you will enjoy this track, as well as both discs. I got hip to Goldie just prior to my departure from West Philly to the land of Cleve, good shit man.
3. Maybe Angels - Sheryl Crow from self titled album. This is a good song, I like the drum beat (of course). I find it odd that this song is all about "angels" and it came out right when that "Heaven's Gate" cult made the headlines back in '97. Apparently they all shaved their heads, had a roll of quarters in their pockets (for toll), and drank some poison laced Kool-Aid while they awaited the UFO's to pick them up. Does anyone else remember this?
4. Milk And Honey - Beck from Midnight Vultures. This entire album brings me back to winter 2000 in West Philly, Regent Square biatches!!!! Holy shit, what a wild ride that winter/spring brought about. And I'll leave it at that.
5. Maintain - Mark Farina from Mushroom Jazz 5. A great song, it's an instrumental w/ some phatty breaks. Not your run of the mill electronic dj here, check him out.
6. Back In One Piece - DMX/Alliyah from ????? Not sure where I found this one, but I like. I heard DMX is like 5'5, he and Eminem should team up. Vertically challenged hard core rappers unite!!!! R.I.P. Alliyah.
7. Morning Song - Jewel from Pieces Of You. What a romantic little ditty.
8. Slow Ride - Foghat from Dazed And Confused Soundtrack. For all those classic rock lovin' mullets out there, this one is for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
9. Tha Shiznit - Snoop Dogg from Doggy Style. Love this fucking song as well as the entire album. Who doesn't love this guy? I think this song is really about me, cause anyone who knows anything about anything, knows that I am "Tha Shiznit" and don't forget it!!!
10. I Will Always - The Cranberries from Everyone Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We? I enjoy Delores O'Riordan's melodic, yet a tad meloncholy, Irish accented voice.
Well, there it is. You've all been anxiously awaiting a new post, and thank you for your patience and understanding. Off to finish my bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Stay tuned for more.

Single's Awareness Day Random Ten
Happy day to all singles. According to a recent study, out of the 43% of single adult Americans, only 13% of them are looking for their soul mate. Kudos to bitter feelings and excess baggage. Also, a recent article published in Cleveland Magazine, it appears that east siders are having more sex then us folk over here on the west side. Hence my new hang out location on the east side. Enjoy the RT, as you can see I had big plans tonight!!!! It is as follows:
1. Streets of Laredo - Johnny Cash from The Man Comes Around. Good starter song, who doesn't love a little JC on any day?
2. Seven of Nine - Mark Farina from Connect. A most excellent electronic DJ/album. Very smooth, jazzie, melodic yet electronic grooves. I do enjoy this man.
3. United Minds - Arrested Development from Zingalamaduni. This song should be our national anthem, for we're all human beings in this country, can't we just live in bliss together????? This group kicks ass. They sing about real shit ie) shitty politics in the USA, shitty family life, shitty racism.
4. Track 01 - Herbie Hancock from a mixed jazz cd I made back in the day. I don't know the name of this song, but it's great.
5. Fuel - Ani DiFranco from Little Plastic Castle. I owe a shout out to Silk for letting me burn this album. Love Ani, and this song is fucking mint.
6. Darlin' Companion - Johnny Cash from Live At Folsom Prison and San Quetnin. Another Cash song baby, love it!!!!
7. Track 14 - Liquid Soul from a mixed cd of Liquid Soul songs I stole from Kazaa.
Don't know the name of this track but it's tight. As are most of their songs!! Some crazy ass trumpets in this one, makes me want to get up dance. I think I will, brb!!!!!!
8. Angry Johnny - Poe from Hello. Whatever this guy did to her, he really pissed her off. Great tune for St. Valentine's Day.
9. The Happy Song - Ottis Redding from The Very Best Of. A nice follow-up from #8. This song puts me in a good mood, perhaps it's the title.
10. Shotgun - Junior Walker & The Allstars from Mowtown: The Classic Years. Gotta love this cut!!! I have to dance to this one too, brb!!!!!!!!!!!
Well folks, there you have it.

Raggae Brunch Follow-up
Everybody was irie irie in the Parkview last night!!! It was a blustery, yet sunny day in the land of Cleve yesterday. Raggae grooves pumped through the Parkview and the rhythm flowed from within all whom attended.

For a mere $5 we got to enjoy the sounds of Carlos Jones and the PLUS band for over six hours of pure rastafarian bliss.
Here is a shot of Carlos doing his thing, mid-song, while his bass player jams out behind him. Raggae makes you move, no matter your age, race, religion, or sexual preference. All walks of life were in attendance, and most of them were giving out vibes of peace and love. Especially the old school hippie handing out small pieces of paper that read "one love" and such. I wasn't sure if the paper was laced with acid or not, so I dropped it on the floor in fear of tripping balls.
This is a shot of the dance floor toward the end
of the night. As you can see it was crowded, and everyone was moving to the grooves. The floor stayed packed throughout the show, at times nearly impossible to move. One angry hippie (yes, an angry hippie) yelled at me for stopping briefly in front of her, whom I returned the favor to later in the bathroom while her head was hogging the only sink (yes, she had her head in the sink). And ladies, beware of the man in the blue shirt. He was observed making out with at least three different women, while wearing a wedding band. If this man is your husband, promptly place the prefix EX in front of him!!!!

Here is a great action shot of Salexis and her friend (who likes the way her body moves to raggae). If you think that's good fella, you should see her between the sheets (at least that's what I've heard anyways). I got nothin but love for you Salexis. Kudos for ditching out on your rehearsal to join me for an afternoon turned to an evening of melodic raggae madness. I will be sure to burn you some Bob & Ziggy prior to your trip around the world so you can keep the good vibes flowing throughout!! Thanks again for coming out.
Who is that crazy young woman sporting the viking hat and glasses? If you see her around, tell her I want her autograph. I love Salexis' face in this shot, it is hilarious. The band was packing up at this point, and I think Salexis may have been molested by a gay man just prior to this shot. So, who's up for the Midwest raggaefest this summer, anyone??
Ah, two friends chillin' at the Parkview. Who the hell is that guy trying to get into our picture? Does he have a perm or is it just me? I see this guy everywhere, does anyone know his name? Not that I care, I'm just wondering.

I don't know this guy's first name (I'm thinking it's Doug), but I do know that people refer to him as the "wrecker." Do not invite him to a party at your house because something will get broken. You cannot tell from this picture, but he is quite large, and becomes a tad unstable on his feet when intoxicated (which is most of the time). He asked to be photographed with me, then took a look at the picture and stated, "Yeah, I'm wasted." I'd have to say I agree. You can catch a glimpse of this man in the O.C., and in the summer he rides a beach crusier bike which is most amusing!!!!

Okay, this last one I love!!! Salexis didn't want it posted, but I couldn't help myself. If you REALLY hate it, I'll take it down, but I think it captures the free-spirited vibe that was occurring last night. Piddy and J-Ho missed out, and that's unfortunate.

Sunday Random Ten
While the east coast digs out from the great Nor'easter of '06, I'm cozy in my house listening to a random ten on my ipod. It is as follows:
1. Fast and Sexy - Seeds and Stems from Suono Esotico The Music of Seeds and Stems. This is a great album, one that was left behind from a party. So, I have no idea where it came from, but I believe they are a local group. Very funky and trippy, as the name of the group may suggest.
2. If You Don't Get It The First Time, Back Up And Try Again - The JB's from Funky Good Time: The Anthology (disc 2). A great funk anthology from one of the best bands ever. This song features Fred Wesley on vocals, with lots of brass behind him, as well as a funky ass groove from Clyde Stubblefield and Jabo' Starks on the kits. Yes, that's right, the JB's had not one, but two drummers, hence the dope ass grooves.
3. Respect Yourself - The Staples from a Soul/Funk mixed cd that someone made for me. Another great funky song for that azz!!!! Keep em' coming!
4. Deep Down - Seeds and Stems from (see above). Hells yeah, this is some down home funky ass shit right here. This could probably pass as a 70's porn rif, it's that dirty funk man, and I love it!!!!
5. History Repeating - The Propellerheads from a random mix of Propellerhead songs I stole from Kazaa. This song features Shirley Bassey, it's a great remix of an old school jazz cut. Shirley's pushing 70 and still doing it up, solid vocals.
6. Check Your Bucket - Eddie Bo and the Soulfinders from an Eddie Bo mixed cd. This song is freakin' awesome. Again, Eddie Bo was a pioneer in soul/funk music.
7. A Nigga Witta Gun - Dr. Dre from The Chronic. It should be illegal not to own this album, it's classic.
8. Maybe - Jack Johnson - from a random mix. I don't know which album this is from, but I love this song, as well as this man. I especially like the ending to this one.
9. Free At Last (Reprise) - G. Love & Special Sauce from Electric Mile. This one speaks to me. These guys kick ass, from the city of brotherly love, aka Philadelphia, for those who don't know.
10. The Jean Genie - David Bowie from Changesbowie. A great song and album.
I'd have to say this was a most excellent random ten. I'm now off to the Parkview for a Bob Marley tribute via Carlos Jones. Good times.

Driver's Ed 101 REPOST
I posted this the other night, and somehow it's gone. So, I apologize if I stray from the original. For all of those non-driving assholes who have a license and still don't know what the hell they are doing. Here are a few issues I run into on a regular basis on my daily commutes to various places, in no particular order.
1. Lane Changing: If you want to get over on the freeway and there is NO one behind me, don't cut me off and slam on your brakes in efforts to make the exit. Just take your foot off the gas (the one on the right), and get behind me.
2. Blinker Use: If you can operate a vehicle, there is no reason you CAN'T operate a turn signal. It's not that hard.
3. Speed Limit: If the posted limit of speed says 35MPH, it's means 35MPH, not 15MPH. Drive it or park!!
4. Traffic Signs: The red octagonal (eight sided shape for those geometrically challenged readers) that boldly spells STOP, means just that. It does not mean to slow down a tad and proceed right through, neglecting the fact that you almost smashed into my vehicle, not to mention that school building directly to your right that houses many small children, whom may or may not be crossing that particular intersection in efforts to get an education. Another thing, when I point out the fact that you just ran the STOP sign, do not flip me off for you are the asshole in this situation. Should have let you hit me. Next time.
5. Cell Phones: HANG THEM UP AND DRIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
6. Traffic Signals: When a traffic light is out, proceed as if it were a four way stop. What is so hard about this? Why don't people get it?
7. Fog: Turn your headlights on when driving in dense fog, as a courtesy to other drivers, I don't want to ride up in your ass because I couldn't see you.
Hope this is helpful.

Laundry day Random Ten
An exquisite evening last night on Banks Rd. Kudos to Salexis for navigating through the Winter Storm of 06' and getting us there just in time for the food!!!! I rolled out of bed about an hour ago (11:30am-damn it feels good to just sleep in) and promptly began doing laundry, for I fear it's going to take ALL day. So, while sipping my coffee and surfing the net, here is today's RT enjoy!!!
1. Moog Island - Morcheeba from Who Can You Trust. Great group, great album, great song, and a G-R-8 way to kick off the random ten!!!!!
2. Born To Be Wild - Steppenwolf from 16 Greatest Hits. Who doesn't know and love this song?
3. Take Your Mama - Scissor Sisters from self-titled album. This song is freakin' great. This album was burned for me from an acquaintance I once had. I love it, I think they are gay, not that it matters, but it gives a little explanation why a bunch of men would be called the "Scissor Sisters."
4. Lake Charles - Lucinda Williams from Car Wheels. I've never heard this song before in my life. It comes from a collection of music that my friend Jimbo uploaded to my computer about two years ago. I like it though. She's kind of Sheryl Crowish/Joan Osborne-ish, and I think she's coming to the House of Blues soon. I'm guessing it will be a good show based on her voice, lyrics, and music.
5. Nappy Juice - Eddie Bo and the Soul Finders from a mix of soul & funk stuff. Again, I cannot say enough about Eddie Bo. This song is mostly music, lots of funky horns, bass, guitar and of course some dope ass drum grooves.
6. Put It In My Mouth - Akinyele from Put It In My Mouth single. All I can say about this song is that it is pure raunch and I love it!!!!!!!!!
7. We Got You - The Roots featuring Jaguar from The Roots Come Alive. Not a song, but an intro.
8. Sweet Thing - Mary J. Blige from What's The 411? Love me some Mary J, she is kick ass!!! Anyone who doesn't own this album, come see me and I'll burn it for you. It's a classic. Keep doin' your thang Mary!!!!!!!!!
9. We're The Same - Matthew Sweet from 100% Fun. I enjoy this song as well as this album. Kudos to Jimbo for sending it my way.
10. Angel - Shaggy from Hotshot. Love me some Shaggy, even if he is classified as "pop" music. Nothing like a little raggae love song to end the ten!!!!
Well, that's it for the random ten. Now what?
