It's 2:40pm, and I am stuffed. I am in my pajamas and watching Mr. Rogers on PBS as I type this blog. He's at a vegetable soup factory showing us the process of how veggie soup is made, canned, labeled, then sent out to the grocers. Good times.
Let's recap this turkey week. Tuesday at the Beachland was the incredible Miss Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings. Salexis accompanied me & we had a blast getting down to some funky soul Dapaliciousness. By the third or fourth song I found myself on stage getting my funk on w/ Sharon. She's amazing. The next morning I woke up hoarse from all the yelling/cheering. I managed to make it through work though without losing my voice.
Last night I baked up some apple pie & threw down some collard greens to simmer all night for the big feast. I made my way up to the Parkview for their annual Turkey Eve blues jam night w/ Kristine Jackson. The place was packed and many a jammers were present, while Salexis & family met me up there just in time for me to get up and beat the skins. I got to jam w/ my friend Reese on harmonica & vocals. J. Scott Franklin was belting out some great trumpet solos w/ KJ, Rob Musik laid it down on lead guitar (as per usual) and did it up on an Elvis tune. Mz. Butterscotch was present to lay down some funky Motown cuts. Salexis' cousin was visiting from Canada and he lead vocals while I laid down the beat for Mustang Sally to close the night. That man has some pipes, and I think it's safe to say we brought the house down. I didn't catch the bass players name on that tune, but he was funky. By the end of the night my voice was totally gone from having to talk over the music for hours on end, but it was well worth it.
I think I'm ready to hit the couch for a little nappy nap. The dogs are one step ahead of me, so I'll have to convince them to give me some room. Hope u are all stuffing ur faces & have a great day!!
One Love,
Medusa Jones a.k.a. Dreadie Mamma
PS - Mr. Rogers is singing about knowing the truth and dealing w/ disappointment. "It's such a good feeling to know your alive and growing inside."
